The Ogun State government has unveiled a series of groundbreaking initiatives aimed at empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the region. At a hybrid stakeholder meeting held on Thursday in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Adebola Sofela, presented these initiatives to business owners and organisations.
Key Highlights of the Support Programme:
- Improved Access to Financing: The government is implementing measures to enhance funding opportunities for MSMEs.
- Streamlined Land Acquisition Scheme: A new programme to facilitate easier land acquisition for business expansion.
- Automated Business Registration: Processes have been digitised to reduce time and costs associated with business setup.
- Inclusion in Government Contracts: MSMEs will have increased opportunities to participate in state-level procurement.
- Digital Literacy and E-commerce Support: Programmes to boost online presence and digital skills among local entrepreneurs.
- Development of Industrial Parks and Economic Zones: Creation of dedicated areas to foster business growth and innovation.
Commissioner Sofela emphasised that these reforms are part of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s vision to transform Ogun State into a premier business destination in Nigeria. “Our goal is to create an enabling environment that attracts investment and supports the growth of local businesses,” Sofela stated.
The initiative has garnered support from key stakeholders, including Dr. Femi Egbesola, National President of the Association of Small Business Owners of Nigeria, who pledged the backing of small business owners in the state.
Notable attendees at the meeting included representatives from:
- The German Agency for International Cooperation
- The Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria
- Nigerian Export Promotion Council
- Ogun State Signage Agency
This comprehensive approach by the Ogun State government signals a new era of support for MSMEs, potentially positioning the state as a model for business-friendly policies in Nigeria.
