Nigeria Customs Service Pledges Support for Locally Manufactured Vehicles

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has expressed the agency’s commitment to supporting locally manufactured vehicles as a means of enhancing economic growth within the country. This pledge was made after Adeniyi took a test drive at one of the factories producing Nigerian-made vehicles.

According to the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the NCS, Adeniyi emphasised the importance of promoting domestic production and reducing reliance on imported goods, particularly in the automobile industry. He stated, “These are Nigerian products, and we have an obligation to give them a chance. We cannot continue to solely depend on imported items, especially automobiles.”

Adeniyi further outlined plans to explore various concessions and partnerships with local manufacturers, stating, “Every effort is being made through a number of concessions, and the only way to support them further is to see how we can put their products into use, and this is the first step we have taken.”

After testing one of the locally produced vehicles, Adeniyi expressed his satisfaction with its performance, saying, “I’m impressed by what I’ve seen. I drove it over a distance, and we negotiated good speed and good acceleration.”

Hassan Ghandour, the Sales Manager at Mikano Motors Abuja, a local automobile manufacturer, assured customers of the appeal, affordability, and variety of options offered by their products. He emphasised the company’s plans to supply the Nigerian Customs Service with premium-quality vehicles and provide comprehensive after-sales support.

Ghandour stated, “This visit is actually to show what we can supply to the Nigeria Customs Service and how we can support them as well. By providing good-quality products, we can offer very affordable options. We are not only supplying cars but also providing warranties of up to six years or 200,000 kilometres for any manufacturing defects, ensuring our clients have peace of mind regarding after-sales service and spare parts availability.”

He further elaborated on the range of vehicles offered by Mikano Motors, including sedans, compact SUVs, large SUVs, smart SUVs with advanced technologies, and pickup trucks. Ghandour highlighted the affordability of their products and their suitability for Nigerian conditions, stating, “Our products are affordable in terms of price. They are customized for Nigeria, taking into consideration the weather and road conditions, as well as the budgets of our clients.”
