NDDC Empowers Niger Delta Women and Youth in Livestock Farming

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reiterated its commitment to promoting agriculture and ensuring food security in the region through a new empowerment program for women and youth.

In a statement released today, the NDDC announced the commencement of a training and empowerment program in livestock farming and agro-processing for residents of Amukpe, Delta State. The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to create sustainable livelihoods and boost the local economy.

“The NDDC is dedicated to supporting initiatives that enhance food security and agricultural growth in the Niger Delta,” said Monday Igbuya, the Delta State representative on the NDDC board. “By empowering our youth and women in the agricultural sector, we are not only creating jobs but also contributing to the overall development of the region.”

Igbuya urged the Niger Delta state governments to follow the NDDC’s lead in investing in agriculture and improving the lives of their citizens. He emphasised that such initiatives could help reduce unrest and promote peace in the region.

The NDDC’s Director of Agriculture and Fisheries, Winifred Madume, highlighted the importance of livestock farming in addressing food insecurity, creating jobs, and reducing poverty. She urged participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge to transform the agricultural sector in the Niger Delta.

Dr. Simon Akhaine, the consultant for the project, revealed that 200 women and youth would receive training in livestock farming and other agrobusinesses. He commended the NDDC for its efforts and assured participants that they would be provided with starter packs to help them become self-reliant and contribute to food security.

Godwin Ubido, the General Operations Manager of Okeimute Farms, expressed appreciation for the choice of training venue and called on the government to rehabilitate the road leading to the farm to improve accessibility and support future development initiatives.
