Building Resilience: Adanian Labs and Ayoba Celebrate Graduating SMEs

Adanian Labs, a leading technology provider, partnered with Ayoba, an open platform for creators and publishers, to host the Ayoba SME Accelerator Nigeria 2023 graduation and awards ceremony. The event celebrated the achievements of 42 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) who successfully completed a rigorous six-month training programme.

Killian Mayuwa, Regional Head of West Africa at Adanian Labs, emphasised the critical nature of a strong foundation for new businesses. “The first two years are crucial for SMEs,” he noted. “This programme aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills to navigate challenges and achieve sustainable growth.”

The programme addressed a critical gap for Nigerian startups. Mayuwa highlighted the difficulty for many to access capacity-building initiatives alongside the inherent challenges of running a new business.

The Ayoba SME Accelerator offered comprehensive training in technology adoption, customer relationship management, bookkeeping, and other essential business areas. This focus on digitalization aligns with Ayoba’s mission, as Sheila Yabo, Head of Ecosystem Development, explained. “We believe technology is a powerful tool for African businesses to unlock exponential growth,” she stated.

The programme’s success is evident in the experiences of its graduates. Ifeoma Anselem, founder of Rae’s Clothing, expressed her appreciation for the tailored approach. “The programme addressed our individual needs, from business structuring to securing funding,” she said.

The importance of SMEs to the Nigerian economy was a recurring theme. Representing the U.S. Consulate Deputy Political and Economic Chief, Kenise Hill, Kelechukwu Onyeke acknowledged the vital role of startups. “Entrepreneurs are the lifeblood of any economy,” Onyeke said. “They are the innovators and job creators who drive progress.”

The Ayoba SME Accelerator Nigeria 2023 serves as a testament to the collaborative efforts fostering a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem in Nigeria. By equipping SMEs with the necessary tools and fostering a supportive environment, this programme empowers businesses to not only survive but thrive in their first critical years.
