Paris-based social impact startup Oriki Energy has announced plans to collaborate with the federal government of Nigeria to stimulate economic growth and create job opportunities at the grassroots level. The company aims to establish a robust network of profitable solar power stations across the country.
In partnership with the Olowu of Owu, Prof. Saka Matemilola, Oriki Energy will launch an entrepreneurship programme in Abeokuta, Ogun State, between May and August 2024. The initiative will empower 100 entrepreneurs, equally divided between men and women, by providing them with solar power businesses.
This empowerment programme aligns with the vision of Oriki Energy’s founder and CEO, Seni Oyekanmi, who aspires to empower one million Nigerian entrepreneurs with solar power businesses by 2034.
During a press briefing held at Olowu’s palace, Oriki Energy’s representative, Funmi Kogbe, stated that the startup programme commenced on May 1st and will conclude on August 1st. She emphasised the company’s recognition of Nigeria’s entrepreneurial spirit and economic potential, viewing the current situation as an opportunity for innovation and tangible impact.
“By leveraging solar energy, Oriki Energy is enabling entrepreneurs across the nation to unlock their potential, thrive in profitable businesses, and improve their lives,” Kogbe said. “It’s not just a company; it’s a movement towards a brighter, more sustainable future where Africans can shape their own destinies and achieve financial independence.”
Through this initiative, Oriki Energy aims to contribute to sustainable economic development and empower local communities by providing access to clean energy and entrepreneurial opportunities.
