OCP Africa, a subsidiary of the OCP Group, has committed N10 million to the Brightest University Fund, aimed at supporting agricultural education. The company recently announced a significant step in this initiative by launching a N100 million crowdfunding campaign for the top 81 high school students studying agricultural science in Nigeria.
In a statement released on Sunday, the company highlighted its commitment to transparently disbursing the funds. The goal is to provide scholarship opportunities to the 81 brightest students who excelled in the national qualifying examination, standing out among a large pool of participants.
OCP Africa Nigeria Country Manager, Oluwatoba Asana, emphasised that one of the company’s core missions is to support and promote the study and practice of agriculture in Nigeria. “By investing in education,” Asana stated, “OCP Africa aims to equip young Africans with the knowledge and skills needed to address pressing agricultural and environmental challenges.”
Expressing gratitude for the donation, Oladapo Ojo, the Executive Producer of the Brightest National Agric Science Quiz Contest and Group Managing Director of DM Holdings Limited, praised OCP Africa’s commitment to education and youth empowerment on the continent. He noted that the N10 million contribution confirms OCP Africa’s dedication to creating life-changing opportunities for young agriculturists, scientists, researchers, and inventors.
The Brightest National Agricultural Science Quiz Contest is designed to stimulate the interest of high school students in creating innovative solutions for large-scale food production and preservation, especially in Africa. This year, the competition saw a remarkable enrollment of 16,039 students from 2,559 schools across Nigeria. Out of these, 81 students representing 57 schools from all six geopolitical zones have advanced to the second phase of the contest.
This generous donation from OCP Africa marks a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to foster agricultural education and empower the next generation of agricultural leaders in Nigeria.
