The Nigerian government is preparing to open applications for its digital skills training initiative to empower three million citizens with tech abilities.
Applications will launch this Friday, October 14, according to Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy Dr. Bosun Tijani. Both training providers and prospective trainees can apply for the programme’s first phase.
The initial phase will provide training to 30,000 Nigerians in digital skills like software development, data analysis, and digital marketing. This is one per cent of the three million targets the minister outlined in his blueprint to upskill Nigerians over the next four years.
Tijani pointed to the success of companies like Andela in Nigeria as proof that the goal of training three million people is achievable. The programme will start small and scale up over time.
Equipping citizens with digital skills supports economic growth and job creation in Nigeria’s developing tech ecosystem. The training programme aims to increase the country’s talent pool and make Nigerians more employable and competitive globally.
Developing a digitally capable workforce is a key priority for the Nigerian government. This new skills initiative promises to open up opportunities for citizens and prepare them for jobs in the digital economy.
